Dealing with stress the SCIENTIFIC WAY!!

So I'm trying to get my brain to rest but this week I have been attending an incredible conference at the Anaheim Convention Center held by Tom Ferry who, for any of those who do not know, is an incredible real estate training coach.  He is unbelievably inspirational and has set in front of us a group of amazing realtors that are kicking butt all day every day... and here I am writing a blog entry at 12.30am!!!

One of the speakers that he had yesterday at the TomX bonus day was a man by the name of Brad Davidson, who is actually not a realtor but a health coach who, along with his team, coaches over 200 CEO's, 45 professional atheletes and tactical members from SWAT, the Navy Seals and the DEA.

What he had to say was super interesting and it was all based around the science of stress.  Science tells us that ONE physical ability separates the top performers from the mediocre or low performers and do you know what that one physical ability is??  The ability to RELAX!!
One fantastic example he gave us was the Navy Seals compared to regular military people.  A Navy Seal can hit a deeper level of sleep than regular military people because they are not affected by the stress of combat in the same way that it would affect anybody else.  They have the ability to RELAX after going through such tremendously stressful events.

Here's a few interesting facts about stress before we move on to some physical ways that we can actually change our stress levels and train ourselves to relax.
- Stress accumulates over time and eventually burns us out.
- Stress affects our sex lives by affecting our cortisol production.  Sex drive and drive for life are the SAME THING!
- Stress makes us stupid.  As your heart rate elevates you become more disoriented.

OK guys from here I'm going to keep it simple... can you say "Nuero Cardiology"??
Your heart has an incredible relationship with the brain and if you can learn to CONTROL YOUR HEART MUSCLE you can also CONTROL YOUR BRAIN!  If you can control your heart rate you can control your stress levels.  Managing your heart enhances you physically in many ways, it lowers inflammation, enhances your energy and prevents burnout from stress.
You can't argue with science!
It's time for me to hit the sack!
Your performance and stress management is either enhanced or ruined by your workout.  You can measure your stress by measuring your heart rate.  If your resting heart rate is above 60BPM you are under stress.  If your regular heart rate is below 80BPM another indication of stress.  In both cases you should only work out verrry mildly to recover (heart rate between 120 - 140BPM).
Now if your resting heart rate is lower than 60BPM and over 80BPM regularly then you can go crazy and CRUSH IT at your workout.
Sometimes it's not good to try and just push through that stress - science tells us we need to take it easy on our bodies. Drink lots of water, keep your blood sugar levels stabilized and sleep for 8 hours (oops!!!)
On that note I'm going to sleep!!
